Qatar, which is contributing to mediation efforts to end the war in the Middle East, announced the start of discussions between Iran and the United States in Switzerland on Sunday. A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “The State of Qatar, in its capacity as a mediator, announces the launch of the Lake Lucerne summit, and the first meeting of the high-level committee with the participation of representatives of the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the two mediating countries, the State of Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.” She expressed her hope that “these meetings will lead to reaching a comprehensive and permanent agreement that addresses all aspects addressed in the memorandum of understanding” signed by Tehran and Washington on Wednesday.
